COMAR Rancho 2.0 Rancho Cucamonga, California

Case Study
FSG Provides Two Levels of Excellent Service to Pharmaceutical Products Manufacturer

Challenge

COMAR is a premier plastic packaging manufacturer with expertise in various sectors, including consumer healthcare, medical, pharmaceuticals, personal and home care, and food and beverage. In support of its pharmaceutical packaging business, COMAR decided to expand its west coast operations with a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

The 230,000 square-foot facility will focus on the manufacturing of medical devices and sub-assemblies, and will employ advanced injection molding, blow molding, as well as high-speed assembly, testing, and packaging technologies. Within the larger building, 26,000 square feet of space will be set up as an ISO- and FDA-approved cleanroom for the manufacturing of specialty materials and assemblies; a space requiring separate and more extensive construction specifications than those that will apply to the rest of the facility.

To coordinate the two-tier construction project, COMAR engaged the services of GC Whiting-Turner to oversee the entire project with specific oversight and management of the cleanroom construction falling to specialty contractor Angstrom Technologies. When deciding on a subcontractor to handle the extensive and customized electrical work scope for the project, Whiting-Turner turned to FSG’s Los Angeles branch.

Solution

The location of COMAR's new manufacturing facility included an existing structure that the company purchased. As part of the new design for the facility, everything except the exterior walls of the building was removed, including the concrete slab in many locations.

FSG supervised the routing of all new electrical service underground, through an extensive network of trenches and pipe runs beneath the facility. Throughout the project, FSG maintained strict Lock Out / Tag Out safety standards that apply when working on a construction site where existing power is present. For the modular cleanroom assembly areas, FSG coordinated its efforts with the Angstrom Technologies team to ensure that the special design requirements for that space were maintained.

Result

With focus and a willingness to provide whatever level of service detail the customer requires, FSG’s LA Branch came through for Whiting-Turner and COMAR in Rancho Cucamonga. With an expected completion date of December 2021, the project is well on the way to ensuring many years of manufacturing success for COMAR.

FSG projects consistently deliver excellence for our  customers, for our employees, and for the communities we serve.

We see each project as an opportunity to embrace our mission and provide superior value through quality products, service, and support.
