Challenge

Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. is one of the world's leading vertically integrated producers, marketers and distributors of high-quality fresh and fresh-cut fruit and vegetables, as well as a leading producer and distributor of prepared fruit and vegetables, juices, beverages and snacks in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Their 145,000 square foot NJ warehouse was lit with outdated metal halide lighting suffering from severe lumen depreciation and long re-strike time.

Solution

This project involved the upgrade of (265) 400W Metal Halide fixtures in the warehouse and 78 fixtures in the offices. 480V vapor-tight T5HO fixtures designed for washdown service replaced existing 400W metal halide high bay fixtures. Since the new fixtures were now instant on and instant restrike, occupancy sensors were installed in many areas to turn off lights during periods of vacancy. In the offices T12 recessed fixtures were updated with new reflectors, electronic ballasts, and T8 lamps

Result

The project produced annual savings in excess of $32,000 annually, with a payback of just over a year. A rebate of over $21,000.00 was obtained through the New Jersey Clean Energy Program.
