King Kullen New York, New York
ChallengeKing Kullen Grocery Co., Inc. is an American supermarket chain based in Long Island. The company is headquartered in Bethpage, New York and was founded by Michael J. Cullen on August 4, 1930. King Kullen approached FSG to help the company take advantage of a very lucrative limited time utility rebate program that ultimately covered over 67% of the material and labor costs to upgrade lighting and controls in 42 of their stores. The challenge was that the projects in all 42 stores would need to be designed, supplied and installed in only 6 months to meet the program deadline. The scope included all lighting, from the sales floor to the back of house.
SolutionOur experts designed, supplied, and installed all of the updated systems. Additionally, our rebate management team secured a rebate in excess of $2,300,000, ensuring a total payback time of less than one year for the whole project. Upgrades included new fluorescent lights on the retail floor and LED fixtures throughout vapor tight fixtures, refrigerated cases, and the back of house.
ResultNew lighting systems increased light levels and improved the appearance of the stores. Upgraded systems featured longer lamp life, reducing future maintenance expense.
