Challenge

As part of a larger, area-wide effort known as the "Greening of Times Square", the New Amsterdam Theatre contracted FSG to conduct an energy efficient lighting retrofit of both interior and exterior fixtures.

Solution

FSG replaced over 5,000 lamps in and around the theatre. Incandescent lighting on the theatre marquis and an adjacent sign was updated with cold cathode lamps. These lamps reduced energy consumption by more than 70%. In addition, it is expected that the cold cathode lamps will have a usable life up to 17 times greater than that of the incandescent fixtures they replaced.
