Challenge

The Plaza Saltillo was a grand, mixed-use project that spanned 10 acres and transformed a dirt lot into a bustling destination for the explosive east side of Austin. When completed in 2020, it had 4 multi-level parking garages, 150,000-sqft of office space seeking Silver LEED status, 115,000-sqft, a grocery store, and affordable housing.

This project required 60,000 miles of electrical conduit. Being a large project with an aggressive completion schedule provided some challenges, but the limited parking for the many teams working on the project created additional challenges to overcome.

Solution

The saying In real estate is, "Location, location, location." At FSG we always say, "Plan, plan, plan." FSG was selected as the Electrical Contractor early in the budgeting phase and worked hand-in-hand with the General Contractor to plan heavily before the build began. Coming into the project early also allowed our Building Information Modeling (BIM) team to work with project leaders and methodically install the underground and in-slab conduits needed.

Result

Heavy rain impacted the schedule at times, but our team of electricians was flexible enough to adjust their schedules to accommodate Rogers O'Brien's project schedule. FSG's Project Superintendent, David Hoke, and his incredible team dedicated themselves to completing this project on time. FSG was proud to be a part of the project and the impact this development will have on the East Austin community.
