West Houston Medical Center Houston, Texas
ChallengeHCA’s West Houston Medical Center (WHMC) has served its neighboring community for more than 25 years with 24-hour emergency services, an open heart surgery program, a neurosurgery program, inpatient and outpatient surgery, and diagnostic services, and more. HCA wanted to expand the WHMC facility, with a design that called for 95,000 square feet of new construction, 33,000 square feet of renovations, and 23,000 square feet of shell space.
A critical component of the project involved expansion to the facility’s central plant. HCA needed the central plant expansion to take place without interrupting normal operations at the WHMC.
HCA turned to Skanska USA to manage the project, and to complete the electrical construction work scope, Skanska decided to go with FSG’s Houston branch.
SolutionThe central plant expansion included additional square footage, new mechanical and plumbing equipment, and a new, upsized main switchboard. Other aspects of the construction project proceeded according to plan. Throughout the WHMC expansion project, FSG worked extensively to coordinate with the Owner's operations team, the general contractor, the generator supplier, as well as local utility services to ensure a seamless transition from existing utilities to new.
ResultUpon project completion, the WHMC increased its number of licensed beds by 53, added new operating rooms and a new Intensive Care Unit, and expanded its women's services. The newly-constructed three story tower now houses the cardiac services, including two cardiac catheterization labs, one bi-plane electrophysiology lab, five diagnostic procedure rooms, and ten cardiac recovery bays. For HCA, the project was a clear success as it allowed the WHMC to extend its existing reach into the community it has served for years. For Skanska, the WHMC expansion represented another successfully managed construction project to add to its impressive portfolio. For FSG, the WHMC project provided another opportunity to provide lasting value to customers that require top-level electrical construction services.
FSG projects consistently deliver excellence for our customers, for our employees, and for the communities we serve.
We see each project as an opportunity to embrace our mission and provide superior value through quality products, service, and support.
