FSG, in partnership with Johnson Controls, provided complete installation services for 18,000 streetlights for the city of El Paso, Texas.

Challenge

In 2008 and 2009, the City of El Paso engaged Facility Solutions Group and Johnson Controls in discussions regarding a complete retrofit of the city’s streetlights. In 2012, the project began. The goal was to replace all street lights – some 18,000 in total – with energy efficient LED fixtures. As the installation contractor, FSG needed to find a way to manage the project from procurement of materials, to installation, to warranty management. FSG only had a couple of weeks between contract award and start date to get the project going.

Solution

FSG’s strong financial footing and extensive resources made it possible to procure the necessary trucks, tools, and warehouse space in short order, allowing the project to get off to a strong start. Over a three year period FSG completed seven phases of installation work with the last fixtures being installed in the first part of 2016. FSG worked closely with Johnson Controls and leveraged its vendor relationships to ensure that the city of El Paso got the latest in LED technology with each phase.
