Tennis Court Lighting Design, Installation & LED Retrofits

FSG handles the full lifecycle of tennis facility lighting — from photometric design through installation, commissioning, and long-term service. We work on single recreational courts, multi-court complexes, and tournament venues across the U.S., with licensed in-house electricians and IES + USTA-aligned engineering on every project.

Photometric Design Built for Your Court

Every tennis facility has different requirements: court count, play level, indoor or outdoor, recreational or tournament. FSG's lighting designers use AGi32 photometric modeling to engineer custom layouts before a single fixture is specified.

  • Pole height, beam angle, and fixture spacing optimized for player visibility
  • Glare control and uniformity verified against IES + USTA standards
  • CAD drawings and construction-ready lighting documents
  • Indoor and outdoor facility design

Installation & LED Retrofits, End-to-End

Whether you're building new or replacing aging metal halide fixtures, FSG's licensed in-house electricians handle every phase: material procurement, installation, controls integration, and final commissioning.

  • LED retrofits cut energy use by up to 70% with rapid payback
  • Most projects qualify for utility rebates, and we handle the paperwork
  • Local crews backed by national logistics and project management
  • Musco, Eaton, and other commercial sports lighting brands
How We Work

Our Tennis Court Lighting Process

Every project follows the same proven path, whether you're retrofitting a single court or building a new tournament complex. From initial site assessment to long-term maintenance, FSG handles the work end-to-end with a single point of accountability.

STEP 01

Design

Our lighting designers audit your existing setup, model the photometry, and engineer a layout tuned to your court count, play level, and facility goals.

STEP 02

Execute

We procure the fixtures, manage the install, and coordinate every electrical detail. Licensed FSG crews on-site, not subcontractors.

STEP 03

Evaluate

After install, we commission the system, verify light levels against the photometric plan, and walk you through operation before sign-off.

STEP 04

Maintain

Long after installation, we provide warranty support, scheduled maintenance, and emergency service to keep your courts performing.

Tennis Court Lighting Standards & Photometric Requirements

Lighting design for tennis courts requires precision. Players need to track a fast-moving ball without glare or shadows. FSG's lighting engineers follow IES RP-6-20 standards on every project, indoor or outdoor.

Foot-Candle Levels & Pole Configuration

Lighting intensity depends on the level of play:

  • Recreational courts: 30 to 50 fc
  • High school: 50 fc
  • College: 75 fc
  • Professional / broadcast: 100 fc

Pole heights typically range from 20 to 40 feet, with 2 to 8 poles placed outside the playing area depending on court count and configuration. USTA tournament play and broadcast events require additional uniformity ratios beyond raw foot-candle counts.

Indoor facilities use different mounting and fixture strategies than outdoor courts. Multi-court complexes require coordinated photometric design across all courts to avoid spill, hot spots, and dark zones.

What Tennis Court Lighting Installation Actually looks like.

Country Club | Kingwood, TX
Kingwood Country Club

Kingwood Country Club's 26-court tennis facility had relied on metal halide lighting for years. The fixtures buzzed, created significant glare, and made night play uncomfortable enough that evening court usage was declining. FSG replaced the entire system with a full LED installation across all 26 courts. Glare dropped, light uniformity improved, and night court usage increased 30% post-retrofit.

"Members are very pleased with the new lighting. As we get into late spring and summer, playing at night is a necessity. On average, after-dark scheduling and events have increased 30% since the lighting retrofit."Meredith Walton, Kingwood Country Club

Grey Rock Tennis Club

Grey Rock Tennis Club's 8-court facility ran on 30+ year old HID lighting that required 15 fixture replacements per year, plus ballast service. FSG redesigned and installed a new LED system that eliminated the maintenance churn entirely.

"FSG knew exactly what we needed here at Grey Rock. The job was done great. It's everything I'd hoped for. It's perfect."Darin Pleasant, Director of Tennis & Grey Rock Tennis Academy
