Publix Supermarkets Lakeland, Florida
ChallengeFounded in 1930, Publix today is the largest employee-owned company in the United States, with retail sales in 2019 in excess of $38 billion. With 814 locations in Florida and more coming online each year, Publix relies heavily on its in-house construction department, inspectors, and strict quality controls to open new stores and to keep the existing ones modern and bright. For remodeling projects, the biggest challenge the company faces involves keeping each affected location open for normal operations throughout the project. For over 30 remodeling projects in Florida, Publix turned to its preferred GC McIntyre Elwell & Strammer. And when the job involved a broad range of electrical services and lighting upgrades, ME&S relied on FSG.
SolutionWorking closely with ME&S, FSG provided electrical construction, lighting upgrade, and HVAC upgrade services, along with specialized services related to walk-in coolers and freezers, when required. Each of over 30 remodeling projects for Publix in Florida has involved extensive upgrades to the bakery, deli, front-of-house, and customer service areas. Additionally, FSG provided all the associated lighting for new signage that accompanied the projects. With a tight 90-day timeline for each project, FSG crews worked overnight shifts to provide the continuity of service the project owner required for its customers.
ResultTo date, every one of more than 30 remodeling projects has been completed on time and to the satisfaction of both ME&S and the inspectors at Publix. Through a shared understanding of the importance of quality, and a willingness to work around the time constraints imposed on each remodeling project, FSG and ME&S continue to get the job done for Publix. Moving forward, the relationship is growing with additional remodel projects taking their place alongside new construction projects as Publix continues to expand its brand and its reach throughout Florida.
FSG projects consistently deliver excellence for our customers, for our employees, and for the communities we serve.
We see each project as an opportunity to embrace our mission and provide superior value through quality products, service, and support.
