What stands out in the top 50:

  • Electrical is the most common specialty. 18 of the top 50 firms list electrical as their main specialty. Only 23 firms pair electrical with mechanical or utility work. FSG is among them.
  • Four first-time entrants made the top 50: Dycom Industries (#6), Triplepoint (#39), Maxim Crane Works (#46) and FSG (#47).
  • What it took to make the list: about $947 million in 2025 revenue to make the top 50, $520 million for #100, and $6.2 million for #600.

What the 2026 ENR Top 600 Says About Specialty Contracting

ENR’s numbers tell a clear story. Data centers and power are driving the trade forward, but a lack of skilled labor is holding it back.

  • Revenue keeps climbing. Top 600 revenue increased 14.7% to $275.1 billion in 2025, according to ENR. Total list revenue has grown by double digits every year since 2020. It increased from $112.7 billion in 2016.
  • Data centers and power lead the growth. ENR reports that Top 600 revenue from telecommunications, which includes data centers, grew 65%. Power rose 33.8%, and industrial process work rose 43.7%.
  • More work is coming. New contract awards rose 6.4% to $230.8 billion, per ENR.
  • The typical firm also grew, but not every firm did. Median firm revenue climbed 6.5% to $136.4 million. About two in three firms reported higher revenue, while others reported a decline.
  • Finding skilled labor is the big challenge. ENR found 62.6% of contractors reporting a craftworker shortage, up from 57.4% a year earlier. Among electrical contractors, about three-quarters said they’re short skilled labor.

Electrical leads the list

Electrical work is the largest specialty on the Top 600. It accounts for 30.1% of all Top 600 revenue, about $82.8 billion.

FSG is #23 in ENR’s Top 50 Firms in Electrical, with $853.4 million in 2025 electrical revenue. Earlier this year, FSG ranked #18 on EC&M’s 2026 Top 50 Electrical Contractors.

FSG earned its ranking by delivering electrical, lighting, and facility work for owners across the country. We are ready to work for you. Contact us to talk about your next project.

What FSG is seeing in 2026

ENR asked Top 600 firms about labor, costs, markets, and what owners expect. FSG’s Chief Operating Officer, Construction, Jeremy Ripley, answered for FSG. Here’s what he shared.

The labor squeeze is now a bidding war

“We used to plan around one of these pressures at a time. Today we’re managing both at once, on every bid,” said Ripley.

The two pressures are labor and cost. Mission-critical projects pull crews into 18- to 24-month commitments, which pushes wages up in every market.

At the same time, material and equipment costs keep moving: copper, aluminum, switchgear, transformers, and generators. Data center demand raises prices and lead times for hospitals, schools, and warehouses too.

Growing our own electricians

“We’re growing our own talent through Propel Career Academy, our trade school.”

Propel runs an electrical accelerator program for people new to the trade, plus electrical apprenticeship training. Apprentices apply through FSG and work for FSG while they learn, with in-person training in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, New York, and San Antonio.

With 30+ branches, FSG can recruit and train locally and offer steady careers close to home. Learn more about careers at FSG.

Building in the shop, not just the field

“Prefabrication saves labor, cuts waste and improves safety and quality, so our customers get their projects finished faster, with fewer surprises in the field,” stated Ripley.

FSG’s San Antonio-based prefabrication facility builds electrical assemblies ahead of time through electrical prefabrication. On a large data center project, rooftop conduit racking was assembled in the shop to reduce risk on site.

FSG Prefabrication saves labor, cuts waste, and improves safety and quality.

Where the work is growing

“The electrical system is the backbone of the facility. Downtime isn’t an option.”

FSG’s project log is growing in two areas. Mission-critical work and healthcare.

In mission-critical work, data center campuses are coming in multiple phases, with larger scopes and longer timelines. FSG delivers full-scope electrical work on data centers, including a Tier III expansion in Dallas.

In healthcare, hospitals are adding capacity and updating aging facilities, which means critical power and emergency systems installed in buildings that stay open, including commercial generator installation.

Owners want advisors, not just installers.

“Owners now expect us to be advisors, not just installers.”

Facility owners are asking for help with energy codes, incentives and power strategy. They want facility data and reporting, audit-ready safety and compliance documentation, and speed with cost certainty. FSG provides these services for customers.

From Apprentice Electrician to CEO

ENR singled out one detail about FSG in this year’s issue: CEO Jason Zipprian. On FSG’s new chief executive, ENR wrote: “He started at the firm as an apprentice electrician.”

Zipprian has spent 30+ years at FSG. He worked in sales, project management, as a regional vice president, and as chief operating officer. He earned his bachelor’s degree and MBA through night classes.

This spring, FSG’s founding generation handed him the CEO role, and company founder Bill Graham is now Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Why the ENR Ranking Matters When You’re Hiring a Contractor

A revenue ranking isn’t a popularity contest. It measures work actually put in place, so it says something real about a firm’s capacity to staff and finish projects at scale. Here’s what that can mean:

  • One contractor across many sites. If you run dozens of buildings, you need one partner who can work to the same standard everywhere. FSG has 30+ locations nationwide, over 3200 employees, and delivers commercial electrical services, commercial lighting, and electrical construction all over the country.
  • Crews when labor is tight. With most electrical contractors short of workers, a firm that trains its own people is more likely to staff your job on schedule.
  • Schedule certainty. Shop-built assemblies mean less guesswork in the field and fewer surprises late in the project.
  • Power that can’t go down. Hospitals, data centers, and critical facilities need contractors who’ve installed backup power and emergency systems in occupied buildings.
  • Supply and install under one roof. FSG is also a top electrical distributor, #47 on Electrical Wholesaling’s 2026 Top 100.
