FSG Provides Backup Power Installation Service for Major New Texas Gulf Coast Plastics Plant
Challenge
As part of the design-build project wrapping up at a new 28-acre advanced ethylene cracker plant along the Texas Gulf Coast, General Contractor Harvey-Cleary needed an electrical contractor to provide installation, testing, and commissioning services for a new Cummins one-megawatt, Tier 4 stationary prime generator set that would provide emergency power for the facility. With all eyes on this very high-profile project, Harvey-Cleary turned to FSG's Corpus Christi branch.Solution
FSG's onsite Project Manager met with owner representatives and the GC to determine what special requirements might apply to the project. At the owner's insistence, a Lift Plan was required before moving and placing the new 25,000-pound generator set on its pad with a Liebherr 1090 crane. FSG coordinated with local contractor TNT Crane and Rigging to deliver the Lift Plan, which was reviewed and approved by the project owner and the GC. Following the placement of the new generator set on its pad site, FSG began the process of installing all feed lines and connections between the generator, the 1,600-amp switchgear, and the associated load bank. All installation work was followed by a complete system commissioning that resulted in the final delivery of the genset to the project owner in perfect working order.Result
