Challenge

As part of a direct install program under the auspices of PSE&G, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey desired to upgrade the lighting systems at their Port Authority PATH Car Shop. The goal of the retrofit would be to improve lighting effectiveness, reduce energy expense, and save on future maintenance costs.

Solution

This retrofit included the replacement or upgrading of over 1,600 light fixtures throughout the facility, including the offices, shops, storage areas, track, pits and building exterior. Low color rendering HPS light fixtures throughout the facility were replaced with high CRI white light, which also provided annual energy savings in excess of $121,000 annually. Long life induction lighting on the building exterior and long life fluorescents in the interior drastically reduced future maintenance expense.
