University Upgrades Both Indoor and Outdoor Lighting

Challenge

Since its founding in 1923, Rowan University has evolved from a teacher preparation college to a bustling regional university that's ranked among the best public universities in the North by U.S. News and World Report. Today, Rowan's more than 14,000 students choose from more than 80 bachelor's and 60 master's degree programs, five doctoral programs and two professional programs. The university is one of just 56 institutions in the country with accredited programs in business, education, engineering and medicine. In 2015, Rowan put out a bid to upgrade interior and exterior lighting under the NJ ESIP program.

Solution

FSG was awarded a contract to upgrade the lighting in the University Library, Student Center, Recreation Center, Parking Garage and several parking lots. The project scope included over 2,000 fluorescent retrofit kits, LED fixtures in the parking garage, LED highbays in the recreation center gyms and new fixtures in the weight rooms. New poles and LED out door fixtures were also installed, which included trenching and wiring.

Result

Energy costs for lighting were reduced 65%, while new LED fixtures provided much longer life and reduced maintenance. Controls were included with outdoor LED and parking garage fixtures, including step dimming controlled by occupancy sensors, photo-cells and time clocks.
