FSG installed new light fixtures at Southwest ISD's sports fields.

Challenge

Southwest Independent School District (SWISD) is a distinguished, award-winning school district located in San Antonio and Bexar Counties in Texas. SWISD wanted to upgrade lighting at the football, soccer, track, and baseball/softball fields of Southwest High School. Retrofitting sports lighting can be a tricky project. One which requires high quality LED fixtures, as well as the right electrical contractor to install the fixtures. One more challenge that the school had to contend with was the limited timeframe in which to complete the project.

Solution

The ISD chose SLG Lighting's 850W LED fixtures for their sports fields. These new 850W LED fixtures, which feature a 10-year warranty, were replacing existing 1500W HID fixtures, but SLG needed the right installation partner. SLG knew the right electrical contractor for the install was FSG. The FSG team in San Antonio performed the project on time and on budget and used the existing infrastructure, including poles, crossarms, and wiring to retrofit the lighting at the athletic facilities.

Result

The brand new fixtures reduced the wattage of each fixture from 1500 watts to 850 watts. In addition, because LED lighting provides improved lumen output over HID lighting, FSG was able able to decrease the number of actual fixtures needed to light the fields properly. With reduced wattage per fixture and an overall reduction of the quantity of fixtures, SWISD will see an estimated 65% reduction in energy usage from the new lighting system. In addition, the instant on/off capability of LED lighting makes utilization of the system much easier.
