FSG Supports City of Dallas Smart City Pilot Project

Award-Winning Red Cloud Neighborhood Project Claims Top Global Honor for 2023

According to a City of Dallas press release, the city was the big winner when the 2023 Smart 50 Awards were announced earlier this year.  The awards recognize the top 50 “smart cities” projects around the world in a given year, and this year Dallas took the top prize.

The recognition comes in response to the completion of Dallas’ Red Cloud Neighborhood Smart Cities Pilot Project, which was begun in 2021.  For the pilot project Dallas selected it’s southeast District 5 community, where all streets, alleys, and sidewalks were renovated to include multiple high-tech  networking and monitoring upgrades.

As part of the project, 190 homes in the upgraded neighborhood enjoy community Wi-Fi, the work of Air Quality Monitors (AQM), and the increased security provided by situational awareness cameras at select locations that piggyback on newly installed LED streetlights integrated with wireless access points (WAP).

FSG’s Dallas branch was honored to support the City of Dallas with its award-winning smart cities project.  FSG provided material, Ubicquia components, and installation for the project utilizing their Buyboard cooperative purchasing agreement.

For FSG, the project provided another opportunity to help communities understand the many benefits of smart city technology.

FSG is Helping Make Cities Smarter

In Greenville, South Carolina, FSG was instrumental in supporting another notable Smart Cities project.  As with the Dallas Red Cloud project, FSG played a critical role in integrating multiple companies, technologies, and constituents in the creation of a single package to meet the needs of the community.

For Dallas, the Red Cloud project is expected to deliver valuable neighborhood-specific data that will assist with public safety efforts as well as future infrastructure planning.  Early project success has already created a drive within city council meetings to see the project rolled out across other districts around the city.

A national news story highlighting the project pointed out that area residents impacted by the new technology report a much more welcoming environment in their neighborhoods, with elderly residents in particular enjoying improved peace of mind.
